Tata Motors owns Jaguar Land Rover brand and this means it even has access to its technology, design and of course their global infrastructure as well. The British marquee has see a tremendous growth under the management of Tata Motors. This is the new jewel on Tata Motors crown. Today JLR is the largest automotive manufacturer in the United Kingdom. This adds on to the great job that Tata management has done with a brand that could have been dead.

Indian Operations and Executive Managements

Mayank Pareek recently joined Tata Motors as the President for passenger vehicles business unit with Dr Timothy Leverton heading the advanced and product engineering department. The CFO of the company is Mr C Ramakrishnan and Mr Ravindra Pishardoy being the executive director for commercial vehicles division.

Tata Motors has its manufacturing plants in Pimpri, Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Sanand and Dharwad. The company also has manufacturing units in Argentina, Sout Africa, Thailand and even the United Kingdom. The R&D centres are located in Pune, Jamshedpur, Lickson, South Korea, UK and even Spain.

Products & Services

Tata Motors is the largest vehicle manufacturer in India. It makes passengers vehicles, buses, trucks and even manufactures defence vehicles. The Indian automotive giant is looking at expanding its dealership network across the country for passenger and commercial vehicles. The company has also launched a new brand called Tata Motors Assured, which helps Tata car buyers to buy and sell their used cars.

Environmental Initiatives

Tata Motors at the moment is offering diesel vehicles with high fuel-efficiency and then it even has some vehicles with CNG as well. Today even the Nano is made available with a CNG powered engine called as eMax. This is also offered on the Indica eV2 and the Indigo eCS as well. The company had even showcased a fully electric version of the Nano, which was for exports and then the Ace also was showcased with an electric motor. JLR also has hybrid and electric vehicles that will be launched in the near future.

Founder & First car

Tata Motors was formed in 1945, when it commenced its journey as a commercial vehicle manufacturer. However, the first passenger vehicle that was launched is the Tata Sierra, which was launched in 1991. Then the Tata Estate and the Sumo followed in quick succession.

Tata Motors has one of the widest dealer network in the country and the second oldest after Maruti Suzuki. The biggest USPs of Tata vehicles is their space and fuel-efficiency. All the Tata vehicles be it the Nano or the Aria/Hexa are highly spacious and have good fuel efficiency as well. At the same time these are great value for money packages. The new models like Bolt, Zest and even Safari Storme come with Harman audio system, which is seen on high end cars.

Resale Value

The resale of Tata diesel vehicles is good, while that of the petrol isn’t that great. The Indica and Indigo mostly being badged as taxi has affected the image of the company. However, these are highly reliable products and fuel efficient too and this helps the company to increase its sales. The modern day Revotron petrol engines are helping Tata Motors to reach out to more petrol car buyers as well.

Tata Motors competes with several automakers like Hyundai, Honda and even Mahindra. The company has hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs on offer, which makes it a good variety to pick from.
