Summary
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd. (NMIPL) is a completely owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, the Japanese auto maker. The company forayed into Indian market in year 2005. Along with its global ally, Renault, Nissan has established a manufacturing unit and R & D unit near Chennai. Along with Nissan cars, it, since 2013, has been running the Datsun sub-brand that has a three vehicle range.
Indian Operations
Nissan along with its global partner Renault India signed a MoU with the Tamil Nadu Government for setting up a manufacturing unit in Oragadam, Chennai. The company also announced a hefty 45 billion Indian Rupees investment in a 7 year period for this production facility. Within 21 months of this declaration, the manufacturing unit commenced its operations on March 17, 2010. This plant has a huge rolling out capacity of around 4.80 lakh units. The company also exports its vehicles to a number of international markets. The auto maker is at present the second largest car exporter of India. It exports vehicles to more than one hundred nations including countries in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa from India.
Current operations
The Nissan brand currently has the Kicks and Magnite SUVs as well the GTR super car on sale in India. Under the Datsun moniker they sell the Go hatchback, Go Plus mini MPV as well as the Redigo A-segment hatchback.
