The undisputed king of UV and SUV segments in India, Mahindra & Mahindra is mulling over launching two new compact SUVs in the coming time. If rumors are to be believed the company is contemplating to induct a line of new MPVs. Now this sounds like a treat for the Mahindra SUV and MPV lovers.
Rumors are rife that Mahindra has started working on the new line of MPVs bragging new design language which is being worked on. Speculations also suggest that Mahindra is planning to develop a MPV which will be conceived on the SsangYong X100 platform. This MPV will gun straight against Chevrolet Enjoy, Honda Mobilio, Datsun Go+ MPV and Maruti’s popular LUV, Ertiga. Other MPVs which Mahindra is working on includes new Xylo and another MPV which will take cues from W201 platform. These new cars are expected to be rolled out by 2015-2016.
Auto sales dipped of late owing to high prices and soaring loan rates, but despite that compact SUVs like Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport managed to register good sales every month. Surprisingly in the snail paced monthly sales growth, sub-four meter compact SUV segment is the only segment that has thrived. Compact SUVs are meant for city driving and appeal to the urban buyers in the country. Along with Mahindra other car makers like Honda, Hyundai, Fiat, Nissan, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki India are also developing new compact SUVs which will be inducted soon in India.
The two compact SUVs we talked about (codenamed S101 and S102) will be built on a new platform and are expected to fall in the price range of Rs 4.5 lakhs to Rs 8.5 lakhs. Apart from these two compact SUVs, Mahindra is also developing yet another SUV (codenamed U301) which could be launched by 2016.
