Unlike the Creta that uses modified Elantra platform, this new MPV will be based on a lower-cost hybrid platform. The same platform will be used for Hyundai’s other future products. The MPV will share some components with the Grand i10, and the recently launched Creta SUV. Powering the MPV will be the 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines that also do duty to the Verna sedan. The former produces a maximum power of 105bhp, while the latter one offers 89bhp. At a later stage, the company might introduce a 212bhp, 1.6-litre petrol and a 126bhp, 1.6-litre diesel engines. An automatic transmission could also be on offer.

Upon its launch, the MPV will take on Maruti Ertiga, Renault Logdy and Honda Mobilio. Besides the new MPV, Hyundai India will also move into the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment with a new product. This new sub-compact SUV will underpin the same lower-cost platform that will be used for the MPV. To be positioned below the Creta, Hyundai’s sub-4 meter compact SUV will rival the Ford Ecosport. Being a sub-4-meter vehicle, it will avail the benefits of excise duty, and expected to be price competitively against rivals.
