Mahindra’s popular SUV, Scorpio is up for a tweak and is expected to go on sale around festive season this year. Launched 12 years ago in domestic market, the SUV underwent an array of modifications, however this time the overhaul is thorough. On the sales front, the old school Scorpio continues to do well despite fierce competition in SUV segment such as Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. In order to keep abreast with the growing competition, Mahindra is likely to bestow intricate cosmetic changes to make the SUV look upmarket and enhance its outer appearance. Major tweaks will be done inside the cabin to offer a comfortable and chic experience to the occupants, along with this suspension will also undergo change.
Mechanically the SUV will remain unchanged and is expected to continue being powered with the same 2.2 litre mHawk diesel powertrain. The 2.2 litre diesel engine is capable of developing a maximum power output of 120 Bhp and a top torque of 290 Nm. Along with a five speed manual gearbox there is possibility of offering a six-speed transmission also.
On the price front, it is likely that Mahindra might bump the price slightly as a result of several new additions. On the outside we can expect new head lights, reworked bumpers and a redesigned front grille rendering a fresh look to the front fascia. Spruced up interiors will flaunt a new steering wheel, redesigned AC vents, new upholstery and a revised dashboard. A string of new features will also be embedded inside the cabin such as a new music system and a touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from XUV 500.
