The international auto market witnessed Renault Duster for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010, however, this compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) arrived in India in July 2012. Interestingly, Duster is originally a product of Dacia, the Romanian auto major which is owned by Renault. Industry experts are of a view that with the launch of Duster in India, Renault turned out to be the first company to introduce the concept of compact SUV in the country on such a big scale. It did exceptionally well in the market due its budget friendly feature but later on, a lot of rivals arrived that hits its sales. The entry of Ford EcoSport brought in a major decline in the demand for Duster, therefore, the firm is planning to bring out its 4x4 version, so as to take the sales graph a notch higher.

The 4x4 version of Renault Duster has been in news since the time it was spotted being tested on the Indian roads. As per sources, the company might offer it as the top end variant in RxZ version. It must be noted that a facelift model of this immensely popular compact SUV was showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show and is likely to hit the Indian roads by 2014. Tagged as 4WD-Renault Duster 4x4, this compact SUV would come packed with all the latest features and give its rivals a stiff competition. The latest version by Renault will come with the first mover advantage, which will give its customers an option of enhanced 4WD pleasure, instead of the front wheel drive. It will be equipped with 1.4-litre dCi diesel powertrain, churning out a maximum power of 108.5 bhp at 3900 rpm along with a torque of up to 248 Nm at 2250 rpm.

The new generation model of Renault Duster has gone through some major cosmetic changes such as double-optic headlights with daytime running lights, 16-inch dark metal alloy wheels, a new double chrome designed grille on top along with a mesh air intake, chrome plated exhaust pipe and slightly modified tail light design. The air conditioner has individual control knobs through which climate at interiors can be controlled. Moreover, the rear windscreen is equipped with a defogger and a wiper that helps avoid fog accumulation. Besides, the model will feature power windows, remote central locking system, remote boot gate opener, remote fuel filler and internally operated adjustable outside rear view mirrors on both sides to add to the convenience of driver. It will also come with automatically adjustable seat for the driver so that there is no trouble while driving.

This compact SUV is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), parking sensors, engine immobiliser, seat belts for all the passengers, dual front air bags and fog lamps. As per speculations, this SUV would come with anti-roll bar suspension type at the front and independent McPherson strut with coil spring. The latest version would help Renault seek the position it once held in the compact SUV segment even after tough competition being around in the background. With so many features to go for, there is no doubt that this additional dimension to the current generation model of Duster would have an edge over the other same segment models.
