Nissan has confirmed that it is developing next generation Micra that will be launched in late 2016 in European market. The current generation Europe-spec model is manufactured at Renault-Nissan alliance unit located in Chennai, India. However, the next generation Micra will be produced at the Renault Flins plant located near Paris in France. As for the Indian model, the company has not ruled out possibility of a facelift version. Clearing the air on India-spec Micra facelift, Nissan has confirmed that domestic market will get the tweaked Micra only when the lifecycle of current model comes to an end. The India-spec Micra is indicatively different from the Europe bound Micra and the former is likely to get some specific changes.
Coming back to the Europe-spec model, the company plans to build entire chassis and assemble the car in France. Nissan will start building chassis components for next generation Micra in late 2016 at Renault’s Le Mans plant. The components will be sent to Flins facility where they will be assembled. Nissan eyes building 132,000 units of the next generation Micra in the first year itself.
Most of the eminent and popular models in B segment in India have undergone an overhaul, including Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto Evo. The next in line to be launched in a new avatar is Maruti Suzuki Swift and Honda Jazz. A new entrant will soon be rolled out in B segment christened Tata Bolt to make the competition stiffer, hence Nissan could come up with the India-bound facelift. For the Indian market we expect the hatchback to be priced between rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh.
