In a bid to improve its sales in the Indian market, Ford India is planning to launch a bunch of facelifts and new cars by the end of 2015. The new generation Figo hatchback and Figo Aspire compact sedan will be the two mass segment products that the company is planning to launch in India. While the Figo Aspire sedan might be launched by Mid 2015, the new-gen model of the Figo hatchback might come either by the end of 2015 or early 2016.
The new Figo will be larger and more spacious than the existing model. It will share resemblance with the Aspire sedan. The car will feature a hexagonal grille, body coloured bumper with a wide airdam, large sweptback headlamps, round fog lamps and blackened grille on the front end. 15-inches alloy wheels, bold rear bumper and large tail lamps will add more appeal to its new sporty look.
Inside the cabin, the hatchback will receive a new three spoke multi-function steering wheel, Ford’s SYNC multimedia system, automatic climate control, music system with Bluetooth, USB and My Ford Dock connectivity and height adjustable driver seat.
Powering the new-gen Figo will be the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines that power the existing model. The petrol unit delivers a maximum power output of 70bhp, while the oil burner produces 68bhp. Ford might introduce the new Figo with the Fiesta’s 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmitting power to the front wheels will be a 5-speed manual gearbox, while an optional automatic transmission will be offered only on petrol variants. The new generation Ford Figo will compete against the Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio and Maruti Swift in India.
