      BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid launch slated on July 23

      BMW India has announced launch of 7 Series ActiveHybrid in domestic market on July 23rd. Supplying power to the vehicle is a mighty 3.0 litre in-line six-cylinder engine that is good for a top power of 320 Bhp along with a peak torque of 450 Nm. An electric motor equipped in the vehicle works in harmony with the twin-turbocharged engine. The electric motor independently produces a top power and torque of 55 Hp and 210 Nm respectively. A ZF eight-speed automatic transmission transmits power to the rear wheels.

      The powerful engine yielding towering power and torque figures as mentioned above make the vehicle rush from 0 to 100 kmph within 5.7 seconds and enables to attain an electronically curbed speed of 250 kmph. In India, the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid will compete only with a handful of rivals including Toyota Prius and Toyota Camry-hybrid. This segment is yet to get its due in India, vehicle launched before under this segment be a premium vehicle or a mass segment vehicle has not been able to get many takers. ActiveHybrid model of 7 Series is the first 7 Series to be come equipped with hybrid system. The vehicle was revealed for public display for the first time at theFrankfurt Motor Show held five years ago in 2009.

      Being a CBU, the new hybrid vehicle from BMW’s stable is expected to come with a hefty price tag ranging between Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 1.8 crore. Following the launch of 7 Series ActiveHybrid, BMW mulls on bringing more vehicles in India including i8 supercar and 2014 Mini range.
