      Tokyo Auto Show 2009 : PREVIEW

      After the Frankfurt Auto Show last month, auto lovers are now looking forward to the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show from 24th October to 4th November 2009 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba City, Japan. 21st and 22nd October have been reserved as Press Days while October 23rd will be the day for Opening Ceremony and Special Guest Day. The show will open for general public from 24th October onwards.

      The show will have an approximately 2.5km stretch of ground for test drives and each of Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mazda and Mitsubishi are expected to give test drives of 5-6 models at the Motor Show. There will be test rides for special motorcycles as well. Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Adiva, Harley-Davidson and Kymco will participate in this program and are scheduled to provide approximately 30 motorcycles in total.

      Japanese car makers are known for their world class designs and when the auto show is on the home turf, no one is lacking in its efforts. Mazda will showcase its Kiyora Concept car based on 1.3-liter version of Mazda’s new SKY-G engine combined with a six-speed Sky-Drive automatic transmission. The exquisite design highlights superb aerodynamic design, regenerative braking, i-stop start/stop system, giving incredible mileage of 31.89 kmpl.

      Suzuki will showcase two of plug-in hybrid models of the Swift and the next generation Alto. The new Alto is nearly ‘production-ready’ and still retains its trim design and style of a small car.

      Honda

      Honda will have an exclusive area HELLO at the Tokyo Auto show which will be the “Honda Electric Mobility Loop.” It will showcase its electric car concept and will reveal new EV-N model aimed at urban traffic. The new EV-N model is 3-door hatchback model and will be powered by Li-ion battery pack and will have a short driving range. Honda has more than electric cars in its product line to showcase at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. It will also debut a revised version of its CR-Z hybrid hatchback model. It had earlier revealed its concept model but the new model coming up that the Show will be production ready.

      Nissan

      Nissan will unveil three of its electric concept cars – Nissan Roox, Leaf and Land Glider. Land Glider is aimed at city traffic drivers. It will be a narrow-bodied plug-in electric car with in-line seating. Like all plug-ins it offers zero carbon dioxide emissions and is extremely lightweight in construction. Nissan Leaf, which is company’s first ever electric vehicle, is scheduled to hit the market sometime next year and is a 5-door hatchback model. Nissan says it will be able to drive 160 km on a single charge. The batteries can quickly charge up to 80 percent within half an hour. Apart from this Nissan will also launch a mini-MPV model called Nissan Roox, which will be launched commercially this December. Nissan is also featuring Qazana concept car at the Show which is beach like buggy earlier revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.

      Subaru will unveil hybrid tourer concept car from its latest product portfolio. It will exhibit its latest safety technologies including “EyeSight”, an advanced driving assist system with pre-collision control using stereo camera technology.

      Just like Frankfurt auto Show, the Tokyo Motor Show is also expected to carry the theme of eco-friendly and alternative fuel technology cars. We will cover the Tokyo Motor Show 2009 each day and bring you the latest highlight of the global models. Stay tuned!
