Renowned utility car manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra, announced that it will recall about 900 units of its famous Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Scorpio. The company said that the recall is only limited to Ex variant of Scorpio that was manufactured between October to November 2013. The reason behind the recall is the rectification of faulty pressure valve, which was causing problems to owners.

In a statement, the company said, “Mahindra will carry out preventive replacement of a pressure regulating valve in 900 units of only Scorpio's Ex variant which were manufactured between October to November 2013. The recall is limited to only to the Scorpio Ex variant manufactured during the said period and does not affect the other Scorpio variants."

As reported, Mahindra & Mahindra will be carrying the recall procedure with immediate effect and customers would not be charged any amount for the same. Under the recall process, owners would be asked to contact the respective dealership from which they bought their cars.

During recent times, this recall made by Mahindra & Mahindra is a second occurrence in quick succession as the leading passenger car manufacturer of India, Maruti Suzuki, also called back around 1492 units. In order to correct the issue of a faulty steering column, the company initiated a recall procedure on models like Ertiga, Swift, Swift DZire and A-Star.

The instance of Scorpio is not the first time that Mahindra & Mahindra has recalled any of its vehicles. Earlier in 2013, the company recalled almost 30000 units of its flagship XUV500 to replace multiple parts. It must be noted that ever since Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) introduced a voluntary recall policy last July, major car companies in India have called over 3 lakh vehicles related to safety issues. Although the policy is currently voluntary, the government has decided to make it mandatory by 2014. Under this new recall policy, car companies will have to pay hefty penalties for manufacturing defects.

In a car market like India, recalls were rarely made but in the recent past, the trend is catching up. One of the main reasons for recalls being made so frequently can be attributed to the local manufacturing of parts, wherein companies tend to manufacture sub-standard quality products. However, the car companies are doing a commendable job by steeping forward themselves to repair the faulty parts. With this, companies are not only building a strong customer satisfaction base but also increasing their brand reputation.
