According to a report published on TeamBHP, Maruti Suzuki will start dispatching the Celerio diesel this month, and the launch will take place by the end of May or early June. Set to rival Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo and Tata's upcoming Kite hatch, the Celerio Diesel's production has already begun in India.

The Celerio diesel will be powered with an all new 0.8-litre, twin-cylinder engine with common rail fuel injection technology. The engine might deliver an estimated power output of 34.5bhp with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki confirmed that the Celerio diesel will return a fuel economy of around 30.10kmpl that will make it India’s most fuel efficient hatchback.

After the Celerio, Maruti will use the same diesel powertrain for the upcoming LCV (light commercial vehicle), codenamed ‘Y9T’ and the Eeco MPV. In the first year, the company will manufacture 1 lakh units of the small diesel engine. The Celerio diesel will be offered in three variants – Ldi, VDi and ZDi – similar to the petrol version. While, the AMT (automated manual transmission) variant will be launched at a later stage. The Maruti Celerio diesel is likely to be priced around Rs. 4.5 lakh – 5lakh (ex-showroom).
