The launch of Maruti Suzuki’s new car is becoming more interesting with each passing day, as now according to reports, it might get a 1.5-litre diesel version. Rumours regarding the launch of Maruti Suzuki’s new compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which has a codename YBA, have been surfacing quite frequently in recent weeks. The rise in demand of compact SUVs in India, triggered by the success of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster, has spurred on Maruti Suzuki to enter the segment. Maruti Suzuki’s SUV aims at competing directly with Ford EcoSport, sources have claimed.

Though it is going to use the K12 1.2-litre and K14 1.4-litre engines, a range that currently exists, the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel drivetrain might be shunned for a new one, which will also be sourced from Fiat. This engine, as per reports, has the capability of producing an output of over 100 BHP. Talks and development plans about the engine have been in place for a while now and they finally seem to be materialising.

There is no doubt about Maruti Suzuki’s pedigree and brand value in the market but taking on the Ford EcoSport is not an easy task. The American manufacturer has got everything in place to claim the top spot in the segment and it will be an uphill task for Maruti Suzuki. Sources suggest that Maruti Suzuki is not leaving any stone unturned to make this happen and is like to offer an all-wheel drive (AWD) version, which might just be its trump card. Apart from all this, Maruti Suzuki is likely to fight with Ford EcoSport in terms of pricing.
