Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been in the limelight ever since it was launched earlier this year. The Celerio held bragging rights as most affordable AMT hatchback, until the new K10 was launched recently. As per fresh updates, sources have spotted the new diesel trim undergoing tests. The test vehicle did not sport major upgrades except for the DDiS badging on the front wheel arches. The vehicle is anticipated to be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2015.
The upcoming Celerio diesel is expected to be powered by 800cc, twin cylinder engine. The small diesel engine shall be mated to a five speed gearbox that is capable of generating power output of about 50 Bhp with a peak torque output of about 130Nm. The most interesting aspect about the diesel Celerio trim is that the vehicle is expected to deliver fuel efficiency figure of about 30 kmpl. It is also anticipated that Maruti Suzuki may provide the AMT technology in the diesel trim as well.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel may cost an additional Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000 above the existing trims. Post launch the diesel trim may end up eating a considerable amount of market share from Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo. Moreover, if the vehicle gets a diesel trim that has been mated with AMT technology, the vehicle might as well get bragging rights to claim itself as the most affordable diesel AMT hatchback in India.
