Hyundai i20 - 1.0 litre petrol version could be launched in India

South Korean automaker Hyundai pulled curtains off the global version of i20 at the Paris Motor Show and generated a lot of hype. The 2015 model i20 entered the Indian market recently and was christened as the Hyundai i20 Elite. According to reports, the global version features some cosmetic and mechanical alterations, making it different from the Indian version. One of the major changes is the introduction of a 1.0-litre petrol version and rumours suggest that the same could be launched in India in coming time.

The most striking difference between the global version and Hyundai i20 Elite is the addition of projector headlights and LED DRLs, which make this hatchback look absolutely fabulous. In terms of interiors, Hyundai i20 global version does not feature many changes, except for the alteration in colour scheme of the dashboard. Other additions in the interior include heated leather seats and parking sensors on the front. While the wheelbase is the same, the global version is slightly longer than Hyundai i20 Elite.

Quite amazingly, Hyundai i20 global version will come in five variants including three petrol and two diesel. Petrol variants are fitted with 1.25-litre (5-speed gearbox), 1.4-litre (6-speed manual/4-speed automatic) and 1.0 litre turbocharged engines. The 1.0-litre version has generated tremendous buzz due to its power and torque figures of 118 BHP and 172 Nm, respectively. Diesel version on the other hand, will be powered by 1.1-litre CRDI and 1.4-litre engines.

According to current trends, experts feel Hyundai is going to go ahead and launch the 1.0-litre T-GDI version, featuring the turbocharged engine. Though this might not happen real soon in order to maintain the time gap, the launch is inevitable. Competitors in the market are offering turbocharged units. Ford EcoSport and Volkswagen Polo are excellent examples of the same.
