Land Rover is a world leader when it comes to the production of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and the firm is ready to unleash another large monster named Discover Sport in the market to replace the Freelander. The Discovery Sport is a highly anticipated SUV and many utility vehicle aficionados are eagerly awaiting its launch. In a piece of news that will excite SUV lovers in India, the Land Rover Discovery Sport could make its way to India in the year 2015, if everything goes by plan. It is being said that the Tata Motors owned vehicle manufacturer will launch the base model of this SUV in India. In addition, the price of Land Rover Discovery Sport will be lower than that of LR4 Discovery model.

Although nothing has been made official at the moment, reports regarding Land Rover Discovery Sport are really strong and some facts are being taken as given. It will be launched in both petrol and diesel versions. Though the specifications of the diesel variant have not been divulged yet, it is firmly believed that the Discovery Sport will bear the 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain, which develops a maximum output of 178 BHP. While the diesel version will feature a 2.2-litre engine, Land Rover Discovery Sport petrol is going to be fitted with a 2.0-litre drivetrain that develops 248 BHP of top power. Transmission in both these version of Land Rover Discovery Sport will be facilitated by a new 9-speed gearbox all-wheel drive system.

One of the USPs of this SUV is its lightweight body that has been made using a lot of aluminium. Another good thing about the Land Rover Discovery Sport is that it has elements of both classic and modern utility vehicles. To make it more quantifiable, it is a mixture of Ranger Rover, Evoque and Freelander. An excellent example of the same would be its C-pillar, which, in a way, pays respect to the Freelander 1 compact SUV. The rear part of this SUV is quite similar to that of the Range Rover Evoque and Ranger Rover Sport but with an addition of large dimensions and twin exhausts combining to make it look appealing.

According to industry experts, Land Rover Discovery Sport is going to enter the Indian market by 2015 and it will come in a price range of INR 45-50 lakh (Ex-showroom, Mumbai). Analysts believe that this SUV will compete with the likes of Audi Q5, all-new BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz ML Class.
