Hyundai, as a firm, has made tremendous progress in India and is successfully carrying its global image as a brand in the country. The South Korean auto maker has been providing a good challenge to Maruti Suzuki in the Indian auto market, something that is really tough to do. One of the main aspects that have led to the success of this brand in the country is its diverse portfolio. Hatchback segment, by far, is number one for Hyundai as far as generation of revenue is concerned. It has several models in this category, ranging from entry level to premium, which have got a great response from critics and customers. The list of hatchbacks from Hyundai includes Eon, i10, Grand i10 and i20. However, it is not only sedans from this brand that have made a name for themselves; Hyundai sedans are quite popular in India as well. By their sheer performance, Verna, Elantra and Sonata, have established their manufacturer's presence in the sedan segment on all levels.

The competition in the mid-sized sedan segment is quite tough with cars like Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Skoda Rapid competing for the top spot. However, Verna has surpassed all its competitors to gain tremendous popularity and generate excellent revenue levels. It comes in a futuristic design featuring the fluidic design architecture and a sleek profile. The highlights of exteriors of this car are stylish fog lamps, chrome outside door handle, chrome front grille, alloy wheels and an aerodynamic structure. Interiors of this model boast of plush leather upholstery, which gives it a luxurious look and premium feel. This exclusive list comprises sun visor with mirror, large boot space, power window control, cooled glove box and integrated audio system. This sedan comes in two petrol and one diesel engine options. While petrol versions run on 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines, diesel variant is equipped with a 1.6-litre drivetrain.

Coming to the executive category of sedan segment, Hyundai Elantra has carved a niche for itself in the market. Due to its design, class and comfort levels, this car has earned plaudits from customers and critics. This sedan has an aerodynamic design that guarantees optimum driveability and makes it look stylish as well. Exteriors of this car boast of elongated headlamps, extra wide bumper, sporty head lamps, aesthetically meaning LED side mirror repeaters, 16-inch alloy wheels and hexagonal family grille. Luxury and comfort are top attributes of interiors of this sedan from Hyundai. Features like front seat ventilation, power adjustable driver seat and rear armrest audio control add to the convenience levels. Hyundai Elantra is available to customers in both, diesel and petrol engine options. Elantra diesel runs on a 1.6-litre CRDi powertrain that is capable of delivering around 126 bhp of power. On the other hand, petrol variant of Elantra is fitted with a 1.8-litre engine that churns out maximum power of 147 bhp, approximately.

Hyundai Sonata, one of the oldest models of the company, distinguishes itself from the rest due to class, performance-orientation and top-notch luxury features. Character lines of the exteriors of this car along with the beautiful front grille symbolise the kind of class the model projects. Needless to say, this car is right up there in terms of technological sophistication, safety and power. The USP of this model, which competes with Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, is its 2.4-litre GDi engine that is highly efficient and has low emissions as well. This powertrain helps the car to generate an output of around 199 bhp.

Thereby, to put things in a nutshell, Hyundai has a tremendous job in establishing a strong presence in the sedan segment. Industry experts, on the other hand, feel that Hyundai can take things to another level by launching a compact sedan to rival Honda Amaze and Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire.
