      With rising sales, Toyota plan to expand its plant capacity

      Toyota Kirloskar Motors is riding high on the success of its latest models and is all set to enhance the production capacity of its plant in the outskirts of Bangalore, Karnataka. This plant is the second facility of Toyota which currently manufactures successful models like Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback, as informed by a company official.

      The current production capacity of the plant is 70,000 units per annum and company plans to increase its strength to 1.20 units per annum, as stated by Mr. Shetty, Vice President – Sales at Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The first plant of the company, also located near Bangalore has a total production capacity of 90,000 units annually, is currently running on full capacity.

      With increased sales of Toyota cars, the need to expand the manufacturing plants was felt and hence the company is all set to shell out a whopping Rs 215 crore as an investment for expansion of its second plant. The expansion work is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2012.

      On the grand occasion of launching its much anticipated Toyota Etios Liva, Shetty shared the sales figures of Etios sedan and their total target this year comprising the sedan and the Liva. He said that the company has sold 21,000 units of Etios and is expecting the combined numbers of Etios and Liva to be around 60,000 units by the year end.

      Apart from the increase in plant capacity, Toyota Kirloskar Motors’ have also planned to expand its dealership network from 150 to 175 outlets to boost its rising sales.

      Toyota is currently one of the largest car makers in the world. In India, the company sells a number of segment leading cars including hatchback Etios Liva, entry level sedan Etios, premium sedan Corolla Altis and Camry, sports utility vehicle Fortuner, and multi utility vehicle Innova.
