      BMW 1 Series likely to hit Indian roads next year

      BMW 1 Series, which was recently unveiled in the European market, is speculated to hit Indian roads by the end of year 2012. The car will be launched in the European market by September this year. The 1 series sedan will be based on the platform of company’s flagship 3 series sedan.

      After its launch, the BMW 1 Series will be the smallest car in the BMW’s India portfolio. The car is expected to drive high volumes for the company in the country, increasing its market share considerably. As per the recent media reports, the car will be rolled-out in the price segment of Rs 15 to 20 lakh where it will be competing with the likes of Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Passat.

      The car is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel engines powered by 1.5L petrol and 2.0L diesel engines, respectively. Besides the sedan version, the BMW 1 Series is expected to be launched in a compact hatchback version.

      BMW, the Germany based leading auto giant, is currently the largest car luxury car maker in the Indian market, followed by Mercedes Benz and Audi at the second and third spots, respectively.
