Mahindra and Mahindra are back to basics with the roll-out of double cabin pick-up ‘Genio’ on Wednesday. The utility vehicle is designed for those segments of passengers who are employed in the infrastructure development business and have to travel with all the machinery and the team of workers at the site.

"Double cabin pick up are hugely popular in Thailand and Europe and judging by the growth in the retail and infrastructure industry here, we know this will be a ready market in India," Vivek Nayer, Senior Vice President- Marketing division pointed out. Currently Mahindra runs a similar pick-up vehicle but it has only one cabin which could only embrace the driver, a co-passenger and their load.

It’s not that Mahindra has launched a double cabin pick-up for the first time; Bolero double cabin is presently doing the duties on the Indian roads. The company is sure that there will be no intra-competition among its vehicles. The facts say that there is only a minor difference of Rs 38,000 between Genio and Bolero double cabin pick up. Genio’s base variant is tagged at Rs 5.46 lakh whereas the top variant comes for Rs 5.95 lakh. "Although this will be an international class product compared to the Bolero there will be takers for both varieties," Nayer added.

Around 75,000 units are presently sold in the same segment annually and the company proudly shares an exceptional 75 % of its market share. Mahindra and Mahindra, which registered a growth of 51 % in exports last month, is all set to equip more powerful engines to its units that will be exported.

After investment of Rs 225 crore, Chakan plant is ready to take up the responsibility for the production of double cabin and single cabin Genio.
