The Volvo S60 D4 made its debut in India way back in 2011. Back then, this muscular machine was considered to be one of the sportier sedan from the Volvo-line up. Given the current tough competition from the German brands, the Swedish luxury car maker has introduced a face-lifted version of S60 sedan and XC60 SUV in the Indian automotive market. With an approx existing price tag of around 29.9 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, it is placed in straight competition with the likes of Audi, Mercedes Benz and BMW.

The changes in the new Volvo S60 D features mainly cosmetic upgrades. Starting with the interiors, the front looks more mainframe than it was earlier. Slimmer headlamps have been introduced, bonnets feature stronger ridges, grills are bolder and wider. Moreover, the daytime running lights have also been repositioned and the front bumpers have been redesigned. A couple-like profile has been retained in a fashion that the C-pillar extends to the tail lights. The dashboard has also been worked upon with an attractive digital display, backlit buttons and displays, and fresh chrome accents. The floating central console is quite attractive and unique, and practical in its own regard. A dash of excitement and brightness that was long due in the interiors have now been catered to in the new S60.

Globally Volvo manufactures a four-cylinder diesel unit, but the Indian market has been an exception with a five cylinder engine for its cars. The current lot is powered by 1984 cc turbo diesel engine that efficiently churns out 161 bhp with torque output of 400 Nm of max torque. This brings it closer to its German rivals and is also quite zippy within the city. Step on the throttle partially and yet the engine springs to life.

The S60 is available in three variants – D4 Kinetic, D4 Summum and D5 Summum. The sporty leather seats have been efficiently designed to hold the driver and passenger comfortably with an all round support. However, the bucket-shaped seats even at the rear may cause discomfort to a third passenger on long trips. Some of the luxury features such as multimedia system, full leather upholstery, LED daytime lights and rear parking sensor come as standard to all models.

Safety and comfort are in the center of focus with the new models. The S60 is stated to have designed with a safety mechanism that protects its occupants once it crosses the 50 km/hr mark and collides with an object. The latest Volvo is anticipated to be offered in India through Completely Built Unit (CBU) route.
