One of the prominent German automobile manufacturers, Volkswagen, has launched its new hatchback Cross Polo in the Indian auto market, which astounded many as it has been introduced way before its official launch date. A premium hatchback, designed in a sporty crossover style, Cross Polo happens to be a new model in Volkswagen's Indian line-up. The new addition, Cross Polo, is fitted with a 1.2-litre TDI diesel engine, which has been mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system that currently powers the standard model of Polo. Its base model costs around Rs. 60000 more than the prevailing Polo's highline variant, which takes it price tag to Rs. 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car is characterised by a robust engine that derives maximum power of 74 bhp along with a torque of up to 180 Nm, which makes it score high on the performance front. What works to the advantage of this car is its efficient and performance oriented engine that renders a strong performance, especially in rough terrains.

Its exteriors boast of a new front and rear bumpers, which are more edgy in comparison to the standard hatchback Polo. A side cladding has been provided in this car other than the silver roof rails that lend it a cumbersome look. The car features all new 5-spoke alloy wheels, which add to its overall appeal. Further, the black moulded covers for wheel arches and rocker panel, beckons the onlookers at the very first glance of it.

Talking of the opulent interiors, the car is lined with classy black leather upholstery, front door storage compartment, front centre console with 12V power outlet and a chrome finished interior trim. The hatchback is befitted with security features like lane change indicator, dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and rear parking sensors.

In addition, Cross Polo is packed with Climatronic feature, which is an automatic air conditioning system with pollen and dust filter. In order to cater the entertainment requirements, a 2-Din RCD music system has been equipped within the model, which supports USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. The hatchback is being offered in three different colours, namely Flashy Red, Deep Black Pearl and Reflex Silver.

Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport along with the Nissan Terrano, unveiled recently, are the major competitors of the Volkswagen's latest offering, Cross Polo. As the new flagship model has been launched at a higher price range, it is palpable that it will be slotted above the old hatchbacks of the company. Also, it would be interesting to see if the launch of Volkswagen Cross Polo can change the current slowdown in the Indian car market and alter the sales demography.
