India’s leading car manufacturer, Tata Motors is planning to expand its portfolio in the International markets. The company launched its cars in several developing nations including Indonesia, South Africa and others. If media reports are to be believed, Tata Motors subsidiary in Indonesia is aiming to showcase the Nexon compact crossover SUV concept at the 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show, which is scheduled in September.
The Nexon concept made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show and later showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The production version of the compact SUV will go on sale by early 2016. The concept measures 4m in length, 1.73m in width and 1.6m in height. This model features double sliding door system, LED headlamps, futuristic floating console and 17-inch alloy wheels. It will compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Volkswagen Taigun.
The Tata Nexon compact SUV concept is based on the thoroughly modified X1 platform which also underpins the Bolt and Zest compact sedan. Under the hood, the concept gets a 3-cylinder 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 110PS and a peak torque of 170Nm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed automatic gearbox. The oil burner will be powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine.
