Suzuki has announced a red and black paint scheme for its flagship GSX-R1000. This is the second time that the Japanese manufacturer has launched a new paint job for the bike in the last two months. The bike trades for around Rs. 16 lakhs in India and has been giving a tough competition to Yamaha R1.

The bike is powered by the same 999 cc engine which now makes 182 bhp of power, which is 20 bhp more from the previous version. The limited edition will be available for a small premium over the stock bike and may be released in India soon. The special edition is made to celebrate 30 years of the bike which is also the company’s mainstay in WSBK. On the top of the fuel tank, it says “30 years of performance” and it also gets unique strips on the wheels which signify its special status.

Lately, it has been losing its sheen to its Japanese counterparts like Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda and to also to the European motorcycle manufacturer Ducati in terms of outright power produced. Now the superbike scene is flooded with 200 bhp bikes and Kawasaki’s latest H2 has taken the game too far. Also, the expensive weight reduction tricks used by Ducati have resulted in the birth of Superleggera which weighs just 178 kg despite having tank full of fuel.

Suzuki needs more than just special edition paint schemes if it wants to take on its modern rivals. The new bike was revealed at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and the company will start delivering them early next year.
