Upcoming festival season is considered auspicious for driving home a new car. For ones who have not booked a petrol driven car yet, you may have to wait a little longer to drive home your favorite car. Apart from reasons like popularity of top-selling models, the government scrapping off subsidies on diesel cars have also boosted petrol car sales. Moreover, the difference between petrol and diesel cars has also narrowed thereby discouraging buyers from opting for diesel cars at a premium price.

Japanese carmaker Honda noted that around six months back, out of ten cars sold by the company around seven of them were in diesel variant. But now, the demand for diesel has been reduced by half. Speaking more on the situation Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice-president of marketing and sales at Hyundai India, said, “Diesel vehicles are still seeing positive traction, but the growth will be led by new models and petrol-driven cars.”
