      Official: Hyundai Creta compact SUV launch on July 21, 2015

      Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has officially confirmed that it will launch its Global compact SUV - Hyundai Creta – on July 21, 2015. The Creta will be manufactured with high-level of localization (over 90%) at Hyundai’s Chennai-based production facility. The production is reported to commence from June 20, 2015.

      Powering the Hyundai Creta will be the Verna’s 1.6-litre, VTVT petrol and 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine. While the former will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the latter one will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. Hyundai might also introduce a base variant with a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine option. The compact SUV will most likely get a front-wheel drive system.

      Based on the new i20 hatchback, the Creta will feature projector headlights with LED daytime running lights and diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels. It will measure 4270mm in length, 1780mm in width, 1630mm in height, and will have a wheelbase of 2590mm.

      Coming to the features, the all-new Creta will be equipped with several comfort-enhancing and safety fitments such as a touchscreen infotainment system, smart entry with push button start, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and dual airbags with optional side and curtain airbags.

      Upon its launch, the Hyundai Creta will rival the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming S-Cross. This compact SUV is expected to be offered within the price bracket of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
