      Nissan to commence export of Sunny sedan from March 2012

      The Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors has said that it will start exporting its recently launched mid-size sedan Sunny in the Indian auto market from the month of March 2012. The company already exports its Micra hatchback model to the overseas markets after manufacturing them at its Chennai plant.

      Nissan India had established a manufacturing unit in the Indian auto market in year 2005, in partnership with the French car maker Renault, with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore.

      Speaking to the reporters in Chennai, Nissan Motor India Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama, said, "We will be exporting Sunny by March-end. Already we were exporting Micra to many countries. Initially, Sunny will be exported to Middle East market.” While further elaborating the company’s future plans in the Indian auto market, he added that initially the plant's annual capacity is two lakh units and the company will increase it to four lakh units by March"

      Meanwhile, the car maker is working on enhancing the capacity of its Oragadam plant by over 100 percent by the month of March 2012. Moreover, it is planning to enhance its workforce by adding 500 employees in the coming months.
