Country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has shifted production of its flagship sedan – Swift Dzire – to its Gurgaon plant from its Manesar plant. The production of Dzire had suffered badly due to the last month’s workers' strike at the Manesar plant of the company. Unlike the Manesar plant, the Gurgaon plant has a clean history, escaping any major industrial disputes in past decade.
In a recent statement, a Maruti Suzuki spokesman said, "There are some changes in the production plan that would be carried from next week, where DZire is being shifted from Manesar to the Gurgaon plant. The Swift will continue to be manufactured at Manesar plant."
The Manesar facility currently produces Swift and A-Star hatchbacks and the DZire and SX4 sedans. The total production at this plant stood at 3,00,000 units in last fiscal. Launched as the sedan version of the hatchback Maruti Swift in year 2008, the Dzire model has been enjoying a waiting period of 3 to 6 months.
The company is establishing two new plants in the country by next year that will take its total production capacity to as much as 17.5 lakh units per annum.
