Maruti Suzuki India is working on an all-new premium hatchback, which is expected to be launched by the end of 2015. Codenamed as ‘YRA’, the new hatchback is reportedly based on the Swift hatchback platform and will be developed in India and Hungary.

The Maruti YRA premium hatchback will compete against the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20 and the new generation Honda Jazz. Well, it could be Maruti’s product to counter the competition to come from Honda and Hyundai. Hyundai will launch the new generation i20 by the end of this year while Honda will introduce the new generation Jazz by early 2015.

Maruti Suzuki India is also working on a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is likely to power the new YRA hatchback. This engine is codenamed as K10C, and is said to produce a max power output of 90bhp. The new hatchback will also get an automated manual transmission gearbox like Celerio. This model will also get 1.3-litre Multi-jet engine that also does its duty to the Swift and Swift Dzire.

The Maruti Suzuki YRA premium hatchback will sit between the Swift and Ciaz sedan and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6-9 lakh. Moreover, Maruti will also launch the facelifted version of Swift by the mid of this year.
