Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is aiming to launch at least 8 cars this year, out of which two products are all new. The company will launch the S-Cross SX4 crossover in the second quarter of 2015, while the YRA premium hatchback will go on sale ahead of the festive season in September/October. With YBA SUV, MSI will enter into the growing sub-4 metre compact SUV segment. The compact SUV is expected to be launched by the early next year; however, the exact launch detail of the car is yet to be announced.
We believe that the 2016 Delhi Motor Show could be the perfect platform for Maruti Suzuki to unveil its most-awaited car. Codenamed YBA, the compact SUV might be unveiled at the Auto Show, while the launch could take place in February or March. This Ford EcoSport rival will be made available in both petrol and diesel fuel options. If media reports are to be believed, the company is planning to introduce the new 1.5-litre diesel engine with the SUV, which is basically a downsized version of the 1.6-litre multi-jet unit. The petrol unit will continue to be the 1.2-litre unit that also powers the Swift twins.
Maruti Suzuki has already started testing the YBA compact in India, indicating that the development process of the SUV has commenced. Expected to be made available in the front-wheel drive option, the vehicle will get both automatic and manaul transmissions.
