The brochure of Maruti Suzuki’s first Hybrid car - the Ciaz SHVS - has been leaked ahead of its launch on September 1, 2015. The company has already started accepting pre-booking orders for the vehicle at Rs. 11,000 – Rs. 21,000. Boasted with Suzuki’s SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System) technology, the Ciaz SHVS will return a fuel economy of 28.9km/l that will make it India’s most fuel efficient car.

Powering the Ciaz SHVS Hybrid is a 1.3-litre DDiS Multijet diesel engine with SHVS technology that consists of a larger capacity battery, start/ stop technology and an integrated starter generator.  This engine is capable to deliver a maximum power of 91.18bhp at 6,000rpm and 130Nm at 4,000rpm. It is mated with a five-speed manual transmission that is coupled with a 2WD (two-wheel drive) system. Maruti Suzuki’s future products such as iM-4 mini SUV and Baleno premium hatchback will also be equipped with the same SHVS technology.

The Ciaz SHVS will continue to measure 4,490mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,485mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,650mm. Features on offer are touchscreen SmartPlay system with voice command and navigation system, audio system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio and calling controls, leather seat upholstery, dual airbag, anti-lock braking system (ABS), reverse parking sensor, etc.

Since the SHVS hybrid system will be imported to India via CBU (completely build up) route, expect the hybrid model to be Rs. 35,000 – Rs.40, 000 pricier than the existing diesel model. Besides this, the company will also bring-in the hybrid version of the Ertiga MPV facelift, and the new-gen Swift hatchback and Swift Dzire compact sedan.
