Marriages are a special occasion across the globe. But globally we are also known to host Big fat Indian weddings. As per stats, around 1 Crore Indians marry every year and about 25% annual growth is also noted. As per Gurudev Ahluvalia, Director at KTC (formerly known as Karachi Taxi Company) India, middle-class families spend around 40-50 lakh rupees on wedding ceremony, whereas around 3-4 crore is spent by upper middle class families. With the wedding season due to begin soon, demand for luxury cars on rent also increases.
Last month, an agency named 'Carzonrent' who hires luxury cars has signed a new deal for 120 units of C Class Mercedes Benz sedans. These cars are reportedly more in demand during high-class marriages. Speaking more on the occassion, Rajiv Vij, managing director of Carzonrent India said, "Big fat Indian weddings are perhaps the most exciting opportunity for luxury car rental companies, for the celebrations in their home cities or at wedding destinations in Rajasthan and Goa. We already have some bookings and are expecting large volumes for our luxury cars this wedding season." Gurudev Ahluvalia further added, “In 2007-08, the maximum number of luxury cars used for a wedding was about 20; today's weddings have about 100. Also, the number of luxurious weddings are 18-20 today against four -five only six-seven years ago." Currently, KTC rents out Audi and BMW series for marriages at Rs.35,000 a day, whereas the Bentley range is rented out for about 3 Lakhs a day.
Speaking more on the wedding trend in India, Sahdev Goil, founder at Presidential Wheels states that the latest trend is of a shift back to vintage cars. "It becomes easy to hire luxury cars nowadays. However, getting vintage cars is more difficult and people prefer it." The company now has four vintage cars on the offering.
