With the growing demand for affordable SUVs and hatchback-based crossovers,carmakers including Honda, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Nissan and others are planning to launch their vehicles in these segments. Here's a list of all the mini SUVs and Crossover launching in India this year.
Hyundai i20 Active- One can say that the i20 Active is basically a jagged up version of the new Elite i20 hatchback. The company has made subtle changes to add some sporty character to it. It features a more aggressive front fascia, skid guards, roof rails and new, larger alloy wheels. The i20 Active will rival against the likes of Fiat Avventura, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross.
Launch date- 18 March, 2015
Mahindra Thar facelift- The 2015 model of the Thar gets changes to both exteriors and interiors. It is equipped with a new front bumper, larger side-steps and new soft top. Inside the cabin, the SUV will get new dashboard with dual shade, silver finished HVAC vents and a new instrument cluster. Other additions include new steering wheel and two cup holders near the gearbox.
Expected Launch- May/June 2015
Mahindra S101- The home-grown automaker is also working on a micro SUV, codenamed the S101. This SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. Interestingly, the small car will offer space for six adults with a 3+3 seating layout. The micro SUV has a bench type front row seats to accommodate three adults. If reports are to be believed, the SUV will be offered in both manual and an automated manual transmission versions.
Expected Launch- July/August
Mahindra U301/Bolero- Mahindra is also working on the next-generation Bolero SUV, codenamed the U301. The car is expected to be offered in both sub-4 metre and seven-seater MPV styled versions. The exteriors of the SUV offer macho and aggressive appeal. Inside, the car gets new steering wheel, centre console and instrument panel. The company might also add a new touch screen display for the infotainment system.

- The South Korean automaker is enjoying the success of its new breed of cars like Grand i10, Xcent and Elite i20. The company is also ready to join the growing compact SUV segment with its ix25 compact SUV. Already on sale in the Chinese market, the SUV will rival against the likes of Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano. The ix25 SUV will share its components and interiors with the Verna sedan and i20 hatchback. It will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options.
