      Isuzu Motors developing Toyota Innova rivalling premium MPV for India

      The Indian arm of Japanese auto giant, Isuzu Motors is speculated to be developing a Toyota Innova rivalling MPV. Isuzu Motors India is apparently working on a seven seater premium MPV codenamed RU30. Yet in nascent stage, the MPV is expected to be launched in India within next two years. However the company officials have not confirmed launch of a MPV and maintain that the company currently is focusing on its present line up in India that includes D-Max pick-up truck and MU-7 SUV.

      In India the new premium MPV will rival the likes of Toyota Innova and Honda Mobilio primarily. By 2016 the MPV segment get new entrants like Renault Lodgy MPV slated to launch next year, Mahindra is also developing a couple of UVs including new Xylo-U421 and an expected new compact MPV from Hyundai.

      The company currently imports both the vehicles that from Thailand, sources close to the development reveal that Isuzu Motors is also evaluating options to manufacture the D-Max pick-up truck locally in India. Japanese auto giant has already proclaimed a hefty investment of 3,000 crore to build a production facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. However before its manufacturing unit gets production ready, the company will be assembling its vehicles at Hindustan Motors’ manufacturing facility located in Chennai.

      Being a new entrant in domestic market the company will have to work meticulously on building its image among customers. A difficult task to achieve it will take ample time to achieve its goal. Along with this Isuzu Motors is also working towards settling its vendor base. Officials have hinted at intensifying localisation to 80 per cent within next two years and hence are hunting for best suppliers in the country. Building up a strong dealer network is also among its priorities.
