General Motors introduced its latest sedan model at Auto China 2010, the Chevrolet Sail. The new sedan model has been developed by Shanghai General Motors in association with its Chinese Pan Asia Technical Automotive Centre. The model is basically based on the Beat concept which is latest hatchback model from GM India. Chevrolet Sail is the Beat Sedan which will be placed in the entry level sedan segment.
General Motors has not announced any plans so far about launching the car in the Indian market. However, looking at the success stories of Maruti Swift Dzire, Indigo CS and Hyundai Verna the Indian market seems quite ready for another new compact sedan model which will be smaller than the existing Chevrolet Aveo.
In China, the Chevrolet Sail comes with a couple of petrol engines namely the 1.2-liter S-TEC with 78 Bhp and a 1.4-liter S-TEC with 96 Bhp. Detailed technical specifications or final price details of the sedan model for the Indian market are not available as GM officials decline to comment on the launch of the car itself.
