Honda recalls 14,000 units of CBR150R and CBR250R

Honda has decided to recall close to 14,000 units of its CBR150R and CBR250R motorcycles because of a suspected problem with the starter relay switch instalment.

The company had recently launched new paint jobs for these two bikes at Revfest. The faulty part has come up because of incorrect application of sealant which can hamper the functionality of the vehicle. Experts believe that the engine can shut off while the bike is on the move if something goes wrong with the battery voltage. They also assume that in extreme cases, it can cause fire.

Honda has asked it dealers to repair the faulty parts for free, regardless of the fact that the vehicle is in the warranty period or not. Bikes manufactured between July 2014 and June 2015 have received the faulty part but, there have not been any complains or mishaps yet. This recall is not limited to India as the company has issued a global recall of both the bikes to check for the fault.

This is a smart move from the manufacturer though there were not any complains because of the relay. If an unfortunate even did occur because of the issue, it would have dented the company’s image and it may have to face a lawsuit. But it took the right decision of recalling the bikes and repairing them for free as this not only keeps their reputation intact but also makes it look like a brand which wants to take care of its customers.

In 2012, the company had recalled 11,500 CBR250R bikes because of an issue in the braking system. Recently Harley-Davidson had also recalled close to 2 lakh bikes worldwide because of a saddlebag issue.
