Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) has begun delivering 54 parts to the company's Thai arm after an unfortunate hiatus. These components will be used in the Japanese manufacturer's Brio hatchback, whose manufacturing was stopped in Thailand in 2011 due to floods. The Thai branch of Honda had been forced to bring vehicle production to a halt after it was hit was the worst flood in five decades. Honda's Indian operations produce engine parts as well as components associated with the body, such as crankshafts, for Honda Thailand.
A spokesperson of HSCI commented, "We have resumed supply of all Brio parts to Thailand. This was stopped from October last year after the flood affected productions completely there. We supply parts for about 2,100-2,500 cars every month. These parts are mostly produced at our Tapukara plant. Besides some parts are sourced from our local vendors and then we ship them to Thailand."
Between October 2011 and March 2012, Honda had to deliver models made in Japan and other nations in the Asia Oceania region, which includes Thailand. The company has stated that regular production has recommenced at all plants now and operations are expected to normalise by next month.
In 2011, HSCI's manufacturing operations suffered due to lack of components owing to a tsunami in Japan and floods in Thailand. The flood had largely restricted component supplies for Honda India, which adversely affected the development of Brio, Jazz and City models in the country since its local plants as well as suppliers located in northern and central parts had also been hit. Honda India was able to bring production back on track in February 2012.
