Fans of motorsport racing in India might be limited to just Formula One and Moto GP but the seriousness of DTM Racing Series is something they are not aware about. However, organisers for the series, which has just commenced in Hockehnheim for a fresh season, have employed heavy duty models just as safety cars. Reportedly, the model being used in the German Touring Car Masters new season is the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S.

This mean machine is powered by a V8 4.0-litre unit capable of delivering an output of around 510 BHP and peak torque of 650 Nm. The amazement does not end there as this car clocks 100 kmph from scratch in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed in excess of 310 kmph. Though this might be surprising and telling news for Indian racing aficionados, it is not the first time the DTM racing series has used such heavy-duty vehicles. Only last season, their safety cars were Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe models capable of producing outputs of 490 BHP.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S receives its power through the AMG speed shift DCT seven-speed sports transmission system. Additionally, an AMG Dynamic Plus Package for customers is also present in this car. Specifics offered by this package include engine specific applications through different modes and tuning levels.

In order to enhance its visual quotient, the Mercedes-Benz GT S features a light bar on its roof, something that is present for the safety car only. Also, to ensure minimum resistance by airstream in the car, a carbon-fibre air scoop offering has been provided. There is a colour system in the safety lights of Mercedes-Benz GT S, featuring orange and green units. While the orange colour glows when the car is deployed, green glows during middle-of-the-field position.
