We all have an affinity to choose larger things when given an option. Be it a phone with a larger display or a larger slice of pizza. There is nothing wrong in selecting a grander option. It is indeed a generic sounding true thought.
India loves hatchbacks and the always selling Maruti Suzukis and Hyundais have proven it right with their ringing cash registers. The number of hatchbacks available in India exceeds all other segments. While you might like one for its compact dimensions and a powerful engine, squeezing all the dear ones inside becomes a tussle. The registration copy claims it in bold but you and me know how difficult it is to make three sit in the rear.
Being hooked on to techy toys is no longer an adult trait as there are many young smart next-gens running around with toys which run on the same high performance processor which powers computers. Obviously, keeping them engaged with modern technology is a challenge by itself as the ever evolving never run out of ideas to entertain themselves.
How does all this correlate? Well... we wanted a car, which could realistically be as comfortable as shown in glossy brochure shots, which offers features and options engaging the young and the restless and not make us endlessly spend on it acting like a black hole. It does sound too demanding to be true but then we found a car to fill in all those boxes with great confidence. It was the Hyundai Grandi10 Diesel.
The Grandi10 was positioned in a new segment to take on the Maruti Suzuki Swift with greater aggression. It was intentionally priced lower. This value for money offering also went on to become the fastest car to have achieved sales of 1 lakh units that too in just 10 months of its launch.
We welcomed New Year 2015 in it and have already enthusiastically clocked 450kms. So far the going has been good as it has not made us complain about anything. The Grand shall soon go through its periodic service to sort the minor niggles. We will continue to post different updates on our experience with this premium hatch.
