      BMW Group scores highest ever August sales growth of 9.7 percent

      The brewing popularity of the German automaker, BMW across the globe is evident with its record sales for the month of August this year reflecting an impressive growth of 9.7 percent as compared to a year ago period. BMW Group comprising of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand pooled the sales volume to 1,21,615 units from the sale of 1,10,903 units during the period under review.

      The sales of the BMW marquee showcased a jump of 8.3 percent from 94,893 units sold in August 2011 to 102,730 units in the last month. The majority quantum of sales was driven from the trendy and chic BMW 1 Series to the tune of a whopping 91 percent with sales shooting up to 14,565 units in August 2012. Even the luxury sedan BMW 3 Series attracted solid sales surge of 15.9 percent with sale of 20,951 units as against 18,069 units sold in August 2011.

      Moreover, the mid-size compact car, BMW 5 Series claimed a positive 3.7 percent boost in sales and the robust sales numbers of BMW X1, compact muscular SUV gathered a sale of 11,039 vehicles registering a rise of 33.4 percent in the last month.

      The sales of the MINI marquee were recorded at 18,671 vehicles witnessing a hike by 18.5 percent in comparison to 15,762 units sold in August last year.

      In Asia, the overall sales tallied 37,994 vehicles escalating from 29,311 units marking a rise by 29.6 percent. In the European market, the sales of the BMW Group totalled 49,349 vehicles hinting a step up by an impressive 5 percent. The sales were found to be discouraging in the American market, where the sales plunged down by 2.6 percent.
