Chevrolet Beat, the popular compact hatchback that debuted in the country in January 2010, is all set to be launched in a new diesel version in the Indian market in June 2011. The new Beat diesel was recently caught testing at the Mumbai-Pune express highway.
The Beat Diesel will come powered by a 1.0L diesel engine which is expected to be producing a peak power of 57PS along with a peak torque of 145Nm. The car is speculated to be delivering a segment leading fuel economy of 24 kmpl. The 1.0L diesel engine of Beat has been developed at the same R&D plant in Bangalore where the company had produced the 1.2L petrol engine of the car.
The launch of a Beat diesel version will not only enable the Beat series to compete more promptly with the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra, which are already available in both diesel and petrol versions.
The new diesel version of the Beat will be carrying the same features as the petrol variant of the car. The only difference will be in the engine and pricing of the car. It is expected that the company will launch the car in the competitive price range of Rs 5 to 6 lakh.
