The 2016 Audi A4 has been spied testing ahead of its global debut before the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Set to launch first in the European markets, the new-generation A4 will enter our shores one year after that.
Sharing styling cues from the Audi’s latest models, the 2016 A4 will sport an evolutionary design. On the front end, the car will feature new LED headlamps and a six-point Singleframe grille, as seen on the test mule. Other exterior updates will include a twine pipe exhaust system, moulded boot spoiler and a pair of LED tail lamps. The new A4 will be 100kgs lighter than the current model, thanks to VAG’s MLB Evo platform. This will help improve fuel efficiency and drivability of the car. The dimensions of the updated model are likely to be increased, so expect it to be more spacious.
From inside, the sedan will look similar to the new Audi TT and Audi Q7. Features like a new Virtual Cockpit instrument display, a new MMI infotainment display, a minimalistic centre console and short gearlever will be offered only on the top-end variant. Talking about its engines, Audi has tuned all seven engines of the A4 – a new 190bhp, a 2.0 TFSI petrol, a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol, 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol, 1.6-litre TDI diesel, 2.0-litre TDI diesel and 3.0-litre TDI diesel – for better performance and fuel efficiency.
The hybrid models with 2.0-litre TFSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines will also be on offer. Ditching the multitronic CVT gearbox, the A4 will feature a new 9-speed automatic transmission. An electronic full-time Quattro AWD drive system will be standard only on top-end models.
Upon its launch, the 2016 Audi A4 will rival against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE and Volvo S60. It is expected to be priced within the range of Rs. 30 lakh – Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom).
