Volkswagen dealers have stopped accepting bookings for base trim of Polo hatchback, dubbed Trendline. The company had proclaimed to offer airbags on driver and front passenger seats, therefore the bookings of the old trim have been barred as company will soon be sending Trendline trims affixed with airbags to the dealerships.
The decision to offer Polo with airbags came after the car failed the NCAP crash test, though the hatchback performed better than other cars including Nano, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai i10. Besides Polo, Figo was the other car that performed better as compared to aforementioned cars. Polo’s top-of-the-line trim, Highline was already proffered with airbags, however after car’s disappointing performance at the NCAP crash test, it also started offering the middle variant, Comfortline with airbags. At the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen displayed 2014 Polo hatchback which is likely to be launched in India. However, there is no official confirmation on the launch of new Polo in India from the company yet.
The company recently launched a special edition of its popular sedan, Vento, christened, Volkswagen Vento Preferred Edition at Rs 10.74 lakh (ex-showroom price). The special edition of Vento comes with additional features like alloy wheels, side door protectors, chrome treatment on door visors and window lines and a boot spoiler. The company is also offering a free 1 year insurance and free roadside assistance for four years. Mechanically, no changes have been made to the car, it continues to be powered by the same 1.6 litre diesel motor that is coupled to a five speed manual transmission.
