Speculations are rife that production version Taigun could make debut at the upcoming Sao Paula Motor Show slated to be held in October this year. The company recently showcased Taigun SUV at the 2014 Auto Expo show held in February this year. VW’s new sub-four meter SUV will possess compact dimensions- 3,858 mm long 1,727 mm wide, 1,570 mm tall and 2,469 mm wheelbase. The SUV will be counter other vehicles in its segment including Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
If media reports are to be believed, it is being said that Volkswagen’s Brazilian arm will roll out a bi-fuel version of the SUV which will run on both petrol and ethanol. A 1.0 litre, three pot, TSI motor engendering maximum power and torque output of 110 PS will be fitted in the Brazil-spec Taigun.
However, for other international markets, Volkswagen will offer the standard 1.0 litre TSI engine. Volkswagen will first launch Taigun in Brazil by 2015 followed by other international markets including India. In India we expect the SUV to arrive by 2015 end.
This is a crucial launch for Volkswagen in India as this would be the first sub-four meter SUV from the company to be offered in India. Domestic market will get both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants are likely to come equipped with a 1.0 litre TSI engine engendering 110 PS along with 175 Nm. Diesel trims could get a 1.2 litre diesel powertrain good for 74 Bhp. Besides these, there is also a possibility of 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel motor being offered on Taigun range. A five speed manual could be seen in both the variants and a seven speed DSG gearbox is likely to be offered on petrol trims only.
