Volkswagen cars have been known to be high on monetary value owing to world class safety features and technology. In the Indian market, Volkswagen built a strong brand presence for itself with the launch Polo in the hatchback segment and Vento in the sedan segment in the local market. News has now being doing rounds that Volkswagen may launch a new compact sedan exclusively for the Indian market. Detailed specification about the compact sedan has not been revealed by the German carmaker for now, but it is believed that the vehicle may be powered by 1.5 Liter diesel engine that has been serving the new Polo and Vento cars in India. The engine that is mated to five speed manula transmission is likely to deliver power output of about 90 Ps with 230 Nm of torque.
The Volkswagen's compact sedan is exclusively meant for the domestic market and shall be placed in direct line of competition against popular cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze in India. Recently Volkswagen has launched the new Vento in the Indian market. The new diesel trim in Volkswagen Vento is powered by 1.5 litre TDI engine as against the previous 1.6 litre TDI powertrain. The new engine generates impressive performance figures of about 105 PS at 4400 RPM and 250 Nm between 1500 to 2500 RPM. The decently powered engine has been mated to seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Five speed manual transmission is further carried in both petrol as well as diesel trims. The new Volkswagen Vento is priced between Rs 7.44 lakh to Rs 10.94 lakh (ex-showroom price). Details about the upcoming compact sedan may be known sometime soon post an official announcement made by the company in this regard.
