It's no secret that Volkswagen is testing its hot hatch - the Polo GTI - in India for quite sometime now, as it has been spied a couple of times already. The same product has now been showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Though there is no official word on its India launch, we expect it to be rolled out by the end of this year. The new model receives significant styling updates and a more powerful engine.

Instead of the existing 103.6bhp, 1.2-lite turbocharged engine, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI will get a new 1.8-litre TSI engine that will produce a maximum power of 190bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmitting power to the wheels will be a six-speed manual or Volkswagen’s familiar seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. This powertrain will have an electronically limited top speed of 236km/h.  It can accelerate 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds. The European-spec model is offered with an optional Sport Select suspension system that enables driver to change dampers settings.

Coming to the design, the Polo GTI features LED headlights, a honeycomb-mesh grille with red insignia, revised bumper and LED daytime running lights. Other styling elements include side skirts, GTI badging, dual exhausts, re-designed rear bumper and a tailgate spoiler. The interior, too, has been revised with sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, sports seats, and the Golf GTI-inspired seat fabric.

Besides launching the new Polo GTI, Volkswagen India is planning to launch the Tiguan premium SUV, new-gen Passat, new Beetle, a sub-compact sedan and a compact SUV. The company has recently revealed the details of the Tiguan SUV that will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet’s upcoming Trailbalzer.
