The compact sedan segment of the Indian car market is progressing at the rate of knots. While current models like Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent are performing well, new cars are being discussed by other automakers for potentially quick introductions. According to what reports are suggesting, German car maker Volkswagen might be the next brand to join this bandwagon. A report by Cardekho suggests that Volkswagen is planning to launch a rival for the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire within a period of six to seven months.

The year 2013 and early parts of 2014 did not go in the right direction for Volkswagen in the Indian market and the firm had decided to tone down its aggressive stance. However, the entry of Michael Mayer has changed everything and the firm is hoping for a strong presence in India with four launches during 2015-16 period. The compact sedan, set to compete with Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, is being developed in India at the moment and will be manufactured according to the suitability of the market.

Experts feel Volkswagen will have to be careful as new models are continuously entering the segment. The German firm will need to fight with new models Tata Zest and upcoming Ford Figo Aspire first in order to compete with Swift DZire.

Though nothing has been confirmed yet, Volkswagen is not going to wait for too long before launching the new model. Experts feel that Volkswagen’s quality is really high and if it can manage to price the car correctly, chances of the new model performing well will increase.

One way to woo customers of this segment would be to add a lot of features, which include some that current models do not have. Volkswagen will be putting an aggressive foot forward in the Indian market now and could launch up to three more models after the compact sedan quite quickly.
