      Toyota launches new Corolla Altis in India at Rs 15.87 lakh

      Toyota has launched the new Corolla Altis in the Indian market at Rs 15.87 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Japanese automaker’s long running D-segment sedan is now available across four petrol and two diesel engine options with former also being offered with a CVT.  There are x number of colour options with a new shade the company has termed ‘Phantom Brown’

      The biggest change is the exterior which now gets a new face in line with the Japanese automaker’s latest design. This is design is far closer to the Corolla Furia concept that was unveiled as pre cursor to this generation of the D-segment sedan in 2013. The silhouette and rear-end remains the same as the outgoing but with a new and sportier design for the alloy wheels. The cabin retains its beige and black combination but now with a revised dashboard, reclining rear seats and auto folding ORVMs.

      Powering the petrol version of the Corolla is the familiar 1.8-litre four-cylinder unit producing 138bhp/173Nm of torque with power going to the front wheels via six-speed manual or a seven-speed CVT with paddle shifters.  The diesel on the other hand is a 1.4-litre unit producing 87bhp/205Nm of torque. This engine is only offered with a six-speed manual. Safety options now include seven airbags, vehicle stability control, brake assist and EBD.

      Given the change in preference of buyers, Toyota is now offering the Corolla Altis in more petrol variants than diesel variants. Playing it safe they are offering the increasingly popular AT option in one mid-level G variant one top-of-the-line VL variant for those who want all the bells and whistles.

      The Corolla Altis takes on the likes of other D-segment sedans like the Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia as well as range of SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa.
