If reports are to be believed then Toyota, the Japan-based car maker, is planning to launch its second hybrid vehicle in the Indian auto market, which is expected to be the high end model, Camry. Notably, Toyota already has a hybrid car in the country, the Prius, which is one the most famous full-hybrid vehicles across the globe. Despite its global success, Toyota has managed to sell only around 175 units of Prius, which was introduced in 2010.

Sandeep Singh, the Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for Marketing and Sales at Toyota Kirloskar Motors, spoke about the future prospects of the technology. "It's our bid to showcase the high technology quotient that makes us the world leader in hybrid cars," explained Singh. Sources claim that the hybrid variant of the Camry is going to be the highest priced vehicle being sold by the Japanese auto maker. Currently, the Z6 fully loaded hybrid Prius comes at a price of Rs. 31.42 lakh (Delhi). If reports to are to be believed, the hybrid Camry is going to be priced around Rs. 36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Toyota Kirloskar Motors is planning to assemble the hybrid Camry in India, which will automatically reduce its price, thereby widening its target customer base. Sandeep Singh, confirming the same, was quoted as saying, "We would be assembling the hybrid Camry at the Bangalore facility." Experts from the auto industry feel that hybrid vehicles have a great scope in India, considering the ever rising prices of fuel and the scarcity of resources.
