Tata Motors announced on Friday that the new Nano model will be costlier by up tp Rs. 6,000 though the price for the first one lakh customers will remain unchanged. The base variant of the Nano had been launched at Rs 1.23 lakh at showrooms in New Delhi while the top-end cost Rs 1.72 lakh. The quantum of increase will vary on different Nano variants resulting in price increase between Rs. 3,400 to Rs. 6,000. Tata Motors stated that the prices have been increased owing to the rise in the input costs.

“The price hike won’t be applicable for the first one lakh customers who were allotted the car last year, but will apply to those who weren't selected for the first lot and opted to retain their bookings. The price rise will also apply to new customers,” said Tata Motors in a statement. Dealers have started intimating the customers but as per one of the Mumbai based dealers, people have chosen to retain their bookings so far.

So far, Tata Motors has delivered nearly 45,000 units and expects to complete all deliveries before the end of this year due to commencement of its new plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 250,000 units annually. The plant will run on its full-capacity ahead of its initially planned schedule and will ramp up the production of the model.
